The Weymouth & Portland Partnership, supported by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council has launched a YouthBank for this area. YouthBank is a grant fund which is run and managed by young people, for community projects run by young people. The scheme is unique in that it is young people themselves who make the decisions about who receives the money, about how their YouthBank is managed and run. Grants of £500 are available to young people for projects to improve the local area. Funding has been provided by the Partnership, Borough Council, YouthBank UK and Weymouth & Portland Housing. Swift signs have kindly sponsored a banner and giant version of the logo designed by the young people.
YouthBank WP is run by: Emily Brocklebank, Irina Burnett, Nathan Duncan, Tom Godwin, Joe Hogan, Ryan Hope, Sharlea Honebun, Harrison Murphy, Paul Talbot, Matt Stickley and Charlie Vincent.

Consultants appointed for Weymouth & Portland public art study
Local and regional partner organisations have co-funded research into public art opportunities for Weymouth & Portland, with a view to the Borough’s evolving profile as London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing venue.
Experienced consultants, Mererid Velios, Geoff Wood and Simon Fenoulhet have been commissioned to explore funding options, review available sites and consult with local community groups.
The overall aim will be to provide artwork(s) in the public realm that can be enjoyed by everyone and that will have local, regional, national and international significance. They should also reflect and celebrate the local distinctive character of Weymouth & Portland, and make reference to its location on the Jurassic Coast. The study will also look at how to create a long term legacy from new public art, to ensure that improvement to the area’s cultural profile extends beyond 2012.
The partners involved are Arts Council England South West, Public Art South West, Team South West and Team Dorset, the South West Regional Development Agency, the Weymouth & Portland Partnership, Weymouth College, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, Dorset County Council, Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team and the Creative Coast Group.

Team Dorset
Together – Building a Legacy
Following the launch of the Team Dorset logo last week, the Weymouth & Portland Partnership has promised to do all it can to ensure Weymouth & Portland, and the rest of Dorset, get the maximum benefit from hosting the London 2012 sailing events.
Chair of the Weymouth & Portland Partnership, Duncan Fergusson, said:
‘The Community Plan is designed to go beyond 2012 to ensure that actions are focused on the long term benefits for the Borough, and the focus is not just on the Olympics themselves. The Partnership looks forward to working as part of Team Dorset and ‘building a legacy’ together.’
